Fortunately David appears just in time to help Selene to defeat her would be captors. In an abandoned warehouse a group of Lycans are attempting to subdue Selene in order to capture her. Selene’s only allies are her progeny David and his father Thomas.Ī Death Dealer is seen riding through the streets of Prague on a motorcycle and try to escape from several Lycans the Death Dealer ultimately fails to evade their pursuers. However, the Vampires are seeking to bring Selene to justice for her role in the deaths of the Vampire Elders Viktor and Marcus Corvinus. The Lycans are after Selene in the hopes of using her to discover the location of her daughter, Eve, whose blood could hold the key to creating an army of Hybrids. And even if you'regoing in for the first time - which is unlikely - you're probably goingto understand and be able to enjoy the film as a stand-alone adventure. The film begins with Selene narrating the events of Underworld, Evolution and Awakening that have set the stage for the events of Underworld: Blood Wars.Īt the point in time at which the film begins Selene is still on the run, trying to evade both the Lycans and the Vampires that have betrayed her. That, myfriends, is also saying something!By the end of the movie, I'm sure that fans will be pleased to see thatthere's still plenty of life left for the franchise. If I hadn't seen the trailers, I would be actuallymildly surprised at some of the twists & turns of the movie. That, in itself, is sayingsomething! It also expands the story a bit it doesn't feel like a 'been theredone that' at all. If you're reading this review, I take it you're actually consideringwatching the fifth installment of an action-horror vampire/werewolffranchise so, this is not for those who will be pointing fingers at'originality' or 'depth' of the script, right? Okay.Taking the movie as it is, its purpose and audience in mind, I candefinitely say it delivers: way better than the last one (UnderworldAwakening), Blood Wars is highly entertaining, never boring, extremelyfast-paced and the Selene we have here is less robotic and moredeveloped than we've seen her before. Even the effects were not that great, with so many cringeworthy moments. Overall, movieis so badly directed and edited, filled with lame dialogue and shamefulacting. Action, the strongest point in these typesof films, was so poorly edited and is completely boring. And now we have Blood Wars, 5th and worst in the franchise.Nothing in this movie works. Very forgettable film, even for Underworldfans. Then came 4th film, Awakening, solidconcept but lame execution. Sequel, Underworld: Evolution expanded theorigin story for these species, while Underworld: Rise of the Lycansserved as prequel, giving us idea how and why the whole grudge betweenvampires and lycans started. First Underworld, released back in 2003, is prettysolid action-horror film. Solid concept for thefans of these types of films that offer a bit of story and focus moreon action and gore. Creating some kindof mythology, war between vampires and lycans.

These movies were never made for Oscar consideration, I understandthat, but the first three at least tried something.
